Round 16 MH Footy Tipping - Back to the GLORY DAYS!

That's right tipsters, the ol' Navy Blues displayed some form last weekend worthy of their glory days in the `80's. Knocking the Pies off their perch last Friday would have put a smile on the face of Bruce Doull and his buxom admirer. Only a few of you tipsters out there picked the bluebaggers including young Liv Jones, who became the third member of her family to take home the MH goodies. The only question to ask is whether she'll be able to wrestle the bottle of MH Shiraz from her dad??

It's tighter than a nun's nasty at the pointy end of the leaderboard with Patty 'MadDog' Moloney still sitting proudly on top, Rob snapping at his heels and an absolute stack of tipsters only one point off.

Onto the ball game...

North Melbourne v Carlton

Are the Blue Boys back? After running around with their heads hung low for the last month or so they came out swinging against the Pies to show the type of form that made them a real top 4 threat just a couple of months ago. Nice of them to stir the pot with a bit of twitter banter about stealing Travis Cloke. Could be a good fit? The poor old Shinboners let another vital game slip out of their grasp to really put a spanner in their finals claims. What a game by big Coxy for the Eagles though. Whoa! He was unpenetrable and Roos will need a big lift to win this.

Melbourne Demons v Fremantle

They could probably pay folks to come and watch this and still not fill Etihad stadium. Dees fans don't like traveling to the Badlands and it'll probably only be the die hard minority that'll fly across the Nullabor for this. The game is up for grabs and both teams will be keen for and really need the win. Close and scrapy this one!

Port Adelaide v Essendon

Two teams fresh from 10 goal thumpings going toe to toe at AAMI stadium may not sound like your cup of Emu Export but this could be a reasonable clash. Their could be blood on the turf at windy hill if Hirdy can't get his troops up for this to stop the hemorrhaging and keep their finals campaign intact.

Richmond v Gold Coast Suns

The Tiges will be nervous this week. Very nervous. The last time they headed up to Cazaly's Stadium to take on the Suns they got rolled and their finals campaign was all but destroyed. Can it happen again? With a pretty good run home the Tiges need this big time! Having put up a good show against the Cats last week the Suns will be keen to keep applying pressure anyway they can and will be excited about their chances again to post their first win for the year.

Geelong v Collingwood

Are the Cats coasting to the line ready to dial up the pressure come finals time or are they just not the same classy and consistent outfit that we've come to expect from Kardinia Park in recent years? After tripping up over the Blues last week the Pies will come out swinging and will be keen to cement their top 4 positioning and to show the Pussy Cats that it's they who are the ones to beat in 2012. Has the makings of a classic - we hope!

Brisbane Lions v St Kilda

Even with a home ground advantage it is difficult to see the Lions bothering the Saints too much for the 4 points in this game on Saturday night. The Lions were ho-hum against the red hot Swannies, and the Saints are back to some good form coming into the finals with Riewoldt & Milney in good touch. The Saints need to keep the momentum of last week rolling to make this one a sure bet.

Greater Western Sydney v Adelaide Crows

Poor GWS! Last week's flooding at the hands of the Hawks don't come much uglier than that. They were completely outclassed and out gunned at every turn and will need to dig deep into the kit to stop the same thing from happening again this week. Those Crows are good, very good, and will be keen to stretch the legs out and post a big win this week to keep them at the pointy end of the top 4 for some home ground advantage action come September.

Western Bulldogs v Hawthorn

The Doggies will be breathing sighs of relief that big Buddy will be watching this one from the sidelines. The Hawks are in the sizzling form that they've been promising to deliver for the last couple of seasons. Will it continue all the way to September? Whether it does or it doesn't probably doesn't really matter this week. The Doggies will just be glad that Buddy won't be compounding the damage any more than it's going to be.

West Coast v Sydney Swans

Match of the round! 1st vs 2nd. The Swans are red hot and on a nice roll of form and the Weagles can be devastating at home. These two teams haven't meet for over a year so this will be an intriguing and gladatorial battle at this stage of the season. The Weagles will be keen to put recent losses and close calls behind them and the Swans, with Goodes, Jack, and McVeigh all in good form will be keen to draw early blood with finals footy just around the corner. A potential thriller!

Rd 3 MH Mates Footy Tipping - it's a Miracle!

Welcome to Round 3 tipsters and here's hoping you all had a top little Easter with as many chocolate eggs, church services and jam packed highways you could find...

Round 2 proved to be a walkover for nineteen of the MH Mates who very astutely picked 9...in fact this is the first time anyone at all has picked 9 in the MH comp and 19 of you go out and do it! Top work...

Mighty Mike Stern led the way this week but special mention must be made of The Wiz who is sitting atop the leaderboard. Yes that's it, Warrick Capper, the man who famously said during his porn movie debut:

"I've had a lot of practice being a sex symbol, so if you've got it, flaunt it,"

So, tipsters, get it out and flaunt it for Rd 3...

Collingwood V Carlton
An absolute rip snorter of a game this one. The Pies should have their skipper back on board but the Blues Train is full steam ahead at the moment. Juddy and his boys have hit their straps and are looking mighty fine.

Melbourne V Richmond
And from the rip snorter of a game to just a bit of a snorter of a game...What can you say..ho hum? The loser of this game goes down 0-3 and will have a long 2012 ahead of them.

Port Adelaide V Sydney
A close one between these two interstate teams over in the city of churches. The Bloods have won both of their encounters thus far with Port 1 win 1 loss,  but the power of the Power supporters at home might just get them over the line

Fremantle V Brisbane
You would expect the Dockers to take home the chocolates for this game with Ross Lyon improving his troops every week, but the Lions have got the Big Bad Browny factor back so this could turn the tables

Essendon V Gold Coast
85 of current listed players were not even born and Freo wasn't even a team when Dustin Fletcher first pulled on his Bombers footy shorts. He runs out for his 350 games this week. A stirling effort.. Gazza Ablett is the only shining light from the Gold Coast and unless a couple of other players step up they are looking at quite the trouncing.

Western Bulldogs V St Kilda
The Doggies have got a solid defensive line with Lakey hitting his straps but they are lacking any drive up on the forward line.  The Saints should come home in this one if big Nick can bag a couple of beauties.

GWS V West Coast
Oooh dear...this could be ugly. Top V Bottom. It's not a case of who but by how many. Highest goal score records could be in danger here and Sheeds has got his work cut out for him.

Adelaide V Hawthorn
Sando's boys have had a flying start to 2012 and the Hawks will need to put Monday's loss behind them to knock off the Crows at the G on Sunday.

Kangaroos V Geelong
Fresh off a massive win over GWS, the Roo boys come up against a Cat's outfit that just clawed their way to victory on Monday. The Cats know how to win and will most likely do this on Sunday arvo in the Scott twins clash.

Mitchell Harris Footy Tipping Round 2 Preview!

Hey tipsters, welcome to round 2. It's been a busy week at the winery with our Pinot Noir for both sparkling wine and Rosé halfway through fermentation and looking the goods. JH is hitting the sack early tonight so he can press off the Savvy first thing in the morning ..(wow...no euphemisms there!) and then its onto the reds in a week or two.

4 tipsters came home with eight tips last week but it was the Wild Whiteheads who secured top spot with a game margin of only 2! Nice work, but look out - KC and the Sunshine band will be shake, shake shaking her booty all the way to the top, followed closely by the Jedi Master himself...

The round kicks off tomorrow night with the Saints and Tiges meeting at the G. St Kilda have won 13 games in a row against Richmond since 2003 and could very easily clock up no 14. A bit of a training run for the Magpies on Saturday when they take on the injury riddled North Melbourne whilst Port are at home to a Weagles team that just does not like to travel.

And the game on Saturday night is what they're all talking about! There is a new team in the comp, the Gold Coast Suns, and here's hoping there will be a Dr Geoffrey Edelsten Sydney Swans style debut complete with swanettes, tight shorts and pink helicopters! The Suns meet the Blues in a battle of the bald headed skippers with Juddy trotting out for his 200th.

Freo are setting out to avenge their 69 point loss to the Cats in last years semi-final whilst the disappointing Doggies meet Brisbane who will be minus their captain Jonathan Brown, who is still picking his face up off the turf at the Gabba.

Hirdy had a very impressive debut last week but should find a tough game against the Swannies up in Sydney and the weekend winds up at the G on Sunday arvo with the youthful Dees taking on the Hawks who just couldn't finish the job last week.

Round 3 Mitchell Harris Mates Footy Tipping

Welcome to Round 3 tipsters!

Well, the competition has well and truly kicked off, with Whooper the Whopper just leading the way from Mitchell Harris' very own Miss Lis.
Jan Godfrey took out the Easter chocolates last week, picking 7 in a tough round.

Round 3 kicks off with a cracker of a game on Friday night. A highly fancied Saints outfit takes on the Magpies who don't know if they're Arthur or Martha on the footy field. 
North Melbourne scored themselves an embarrassing lesson on the game last week but should bounce back to give the Weagles a run on Saturday afternoon.

Port Adelaide are at home to Brisbane who have won their first two games thanks to stirling performances from one J.Brown whilst the Blues are looking for their first win for 2010 against the Bombers at the G. Saturday night sees the Swans take on a struggling Richmond, looking at a drubbing of 91 points or more . Did we say 91 points?? Wow that's what the 2007 Mitchell Harris Shiraz scored in a review by the highly respected author Gary Walsh of The Wine Front. What a coincidence...

The Demons missed out on knocking off the Pies by a solitary point last week and could give the struggling Crows a run for their money as well at the G on Sunday. Doggies against the Hawks should be another ripper of a game with both teams looking in fine form. Bulldogs should still be pretty fresh after barely raising a sweat against Richmond in Rd 2.  Freo have never won the first three games of a season and this may still be out of reach in 2010 when they face up to the Cats on Sunday evening.

Easter Footy Tipping with Mitchell Harris

The season got off to a flyer in Round 1 with two of our tipsters locking in 8 picks, Rampaging Royalpark  just pipping out Whopper for the whopper!

Round 2 has come upon us quickly with an Easter Thursday match up north at The Gabba. Fev faces up to his old team mates after slagging them off in the pre-season so look out for a bit of argy bargy in the Brisbane forward line. The Lions should be too good at home.

The team with the longest 21 weeks ahead of them, Melbourne, face up to a fancied Pies outfit at the G on Saturday whilst the Saints should have a decent match up against the Roos later on that night. The Eagles play host to the Power on Saturday night with their running game most likely too strong but Port should be good for a roughie pick.

After the Easter egg hunt on Sunday morning, settle in for another interstate matchup with the Crows at home to a Sydney team that only just missed out on the 4 points last week. Freo played a high pressure match last week and take on Essendon at Etihad Sunday arvo whilst the Doggies should step up a gear and easily account for a "rebuilding' Richmond at the G after that.

The round wraps up on Monday just as all the caravans and cars filled with cranky families are winding their way home on jam packed highways. It's an '08 Grand Final repeat with the Hawks regaining Big Buddy Franklin for the occasion.
